The innovative concept behind Massivit 3D’s large-format 3D printing solutions originated from our visionary founder, Gershon Miller. A serial innovator and accomplished entrepreneur, Miller has a distinguished history as a pioneering developer in both large-format digital printing, through his work at Scitex Vision, and 3D printing solutions, including the renowned PolyJet technology at Stratasys. His extensive experience revealed a significant gap in the market: the absence of a 3D printer capable of producing objects at a truly large scale with exceptional speed. This market void coincided with a pressing need for reinvention within the visual communication sector, encompassing both advertising and retail. Print service providers (PSPs), in particular, face intense competition and are constantly seeking new ways to differentiate their offerings and provide added value to their clients.

Massivit 3D printing solutions directly address these challenges by empowering PSPs to offer brands unprecedented creative freedom and agility. The core idea is to seamlessly integrate impactful 3D printed elements into traditional billboards, create eye-catching point-of-sale (POS) displays, and fabricate unique props – all in record time. Our proprietary technology excels at producing exceptionally large models with remarkable speed, boasting a vertical printing speed of 35 cm (14 inches) per hour, a capability that truly sets us apart in the additive manufacturing landscape. This unparalleled speed allows for rapid iteration and production cycles, which is crucial for the fast-paced demands of marketing and entertainment industries. Beyond the visual communication segment, our large-scale 3D printing solutions are increasingly embraced by scenic fabricators for the creation of intricate props and immersive movie sets, transforming production timelines and design possibilities. Furthermore, the automotive sector has recognized the potential of our technology for rapid concept prototyping, enabling designers to quickly materialize and test full-scale models with unparalleled efficiency and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional methods. This expansion into diverse industries underscores the transformative power and versatility of Massivit 3D’s innovative approach to additive manufacturing.

Unveiling Massivit 3D’s Revolutionary Gel Dispensing Printing (GDP) Technology

To truly appreciate the innovation of Massivit 3D, it’s helpful to understand the limitations of many existing additive manufacturing (AM) technologies. These are generally based on two primary families of techniques, both of which struggle with the demand for speed and scale:

  1. **Solid Material Processes:** Technologies like Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) or Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) rely on melting or sintering solid materials layer by layer. This involves heating, depositing, cooling, and then repeating the process for subsequent layers. This sequential nature inherently limits the overall print speed, especially for large objects.
  2. **Photopolymer Liquid Processes:** Techniques such as Stereolithography (SLA), Digital Light Processing (DLP), or PolyJet technology involve jetting or curing liquid photopolymer resins in a vat using light radiation. While offering high detail, these processes can also be time-consuming, particularly when building large volumes, and often require extensive support structures that must be removed post-printing.

Both of these traditional approaches, while effective for certain applications, are inherently slow when confronted with the need for rapid, large-scale production. Massivit 3D’s proprietary Gel Dispensing Printing (GDP) technology addresses these shortcomings head-on. GDP utilizes a unique, specialized “half-baked” photo-sensitive gel material that is dispensed and then polymerized on the fly using UV light. This instant, on-the-fly curing process is dramatically faster than conventional methods. A significant advantage of this rapid polymerization is the virtual elimination of the need for complex and time-consuming support structures, which are typically required to hold up overhangs and intricate geometries in other AM processes. The material’s unique properties allow it to solidify almost instantly, supporting itself as it’s built up. This not only saves material and post-processing time but also expands design freedom. The synergy between Massivit 3D’s advanced hardware, intuitive software, and specially formulated photo-sensitive gel material is what enables our GDP technology to achieve such radical speed, efficiency, and quality for large-format 3D printing solutions.

Massivit 3D’s Most Innovative and Challenging Projects

Our customers consistently push the boundaries of creativity, developing an array of incredibly exciting projects that range from elaborate movie props to intricate point-of-sale displays, captivating window visuals, and monumental billboards enhanced with stunning 3D printed elements. Among these remarkable endeavors, one project stands out as particularly innovative and challenging: the creation of the “db car.” This extraordinary concept car was brought to life by Marie 3D, one of our esteemed France-based customers, meticulously following the visionary design of the immensely talented automotive designer, Takumi Yamamoto. What makes this project truly exceptional is that the entire concept car was completely 3D printed, a feat accomplished in an astonishingly short timeframe of just 350 hours. Given the car’s complex, flowing aerodynamic shape and the tight production deadline, achieving such a result would have been virtually impossible with any other existing manufacturing technology. The ability of our large-format 3D printer to rapidly produce such a significant, intricate object with minimal post-processing was critical to the project’s success. The “db car” garnered significant attention and acclaim when it was proudly showcased at the prestigious Festival Automobile International in Paris in February 2019, demonstrating the immense potential of additive manufacturing in the automotive design and prototyping sphere.
