Top 1: Optimising metal 3D printing with inert gases
In high-end metal additive manufacturing the quality and accuracy parts is essential, particularly for those used in the aerospace and automotive industries. As such, it is necessary to prevent impurities from contaminating the material during the 3D printing process. In order to do this components must be manufactured in hyper controlled, inert environments. Inert, or chemically inactive environments, exclusively contain inert gases. This is especially important in directed energy deposition, electron beam melting, selective laser sintering, binder jetting and powder bed fusion. This is where Air Products come in. The company specialises in manufacturing industrial gases. In this video Air Products explain how these gases can be optimised for use in metal additive manufacturing.
Top 2: 3DCeram Sinto on 3D printing ceramic
Traditional manufacturing has long since profited from the high-performance properties of ceramic, it was only matter of time before additive manufacturing followed suit. Compared to metal and plastic, ceramic is fairly new to 3D printing. Nonetheless, the material possesses high mechanical, thermal, chemical and electrical resistance, qualities which are indispensable in additive manufacturing. As such, several companies have taken interest in ceramic 3D printing. In this video 3DCeram Sinto explains some of the advantages that ceramic offers as well as how the company uses stereolithography to develop complex ceramic structures for the medical and aerospace sectors.
