Additive manufacturing is not limited to small parts and models that can be made at home. Increasingly, we are seeing machines with extremely large build volumes as the technologies continue to industrialize, eliminating the need to assemble different components to create a larger part. These types of large format professional 3D printers can rely on different processes, however, in this latest ranking, we will focus on fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology. As such, we have selected some of the best largest professional FDM 3D printers (with volumes above 800 liters) to give a quick overview of the market and the available AM solutions for creating XXL quality objects. The printers have been sorted by print volume, starting with the largest.
The CFAM Prime Large-Format 3D Printer From CEAD
The CFAM Prime, an industrial large-format 3D printer from Netherlands-based CEAD, offers a vast print volume of 4,000 x 2,000 x 1,500 mm (12,000L). Designed for 24/7 use, it excels in the production of very large parts. Printing with the CFAM Prime is fast, reducing lead times, especially for complex products, with the ability to print several parts simultaneously on the build bplate. Compatible with various materials such as PETG, PLA, ABS, PET, PEEK and many others, its price is available on request via a quote directly from the company.

Super Discovery 3D Printer Workstation
Launched in 2017 by CNC manufacturer Barcenas, the Super Discovery 3D Printer Workstation is a workstation designed to meet the needs of Industry 4.0. Using direct pellet extrusion (DPE) technology, it is capable of manufacturing large parts at high speed, and also of significantly reducing production costs, as it uses raw material in pellet form. On a more technical level, it has a standard print volume of 1.3 x 2.5 x 1 m³ (3,250L), a closed chamber, a build plate that can be heated to 150ºC, an extruder that is capable of reaching 410ºC, and incorporates CNC technology for post-processing by milling. In terms of materials, the machine can work with a wide variety of thermoplastics (ABS, ULTEM, PC, PPE, ASA, etc.).
